Elementary Processes in Dissipative Cosmic Medium

چکیده

Quantum dynamics of a finite degrees of freedom is often much affected by interaction with the larger environment of cosmic medium. In this lecture we first review some recent developments of the theory of quantum dissipation in the linear open system. In the second part we discuss two classes of applications: decay of unstable particle in medium, and environmental effect on the parametric particle production. The first subject of particle decay may have important consequences on the scenario of baryogenesis due to a GUT heavy particle. On the other hand, the parametric resonant particle production is related to the reheating problem after inflation, and its environmental effect is related also, perhaps more importantly, to the decay of moduli fields in supergravity models. † Lecture given at Workshop on The Cosmological Constant and Evolution of the Universe, held at Tokyo, December 25-27, 1996. To appear in the Proceedings.

1 Fragmentation in Kinematically Cold Disks

Gravity is scale free. Thus gravity may form similar structures in self-gravitating systems on different scales. Indeed, observations of the interstellar medium, spiral disks and cosmic structures, reveal similar characteristics. The structures in these systems are very lumpy and inhomo-geneous. Moreover some of these structures do not seem to be of random nature, but obey certain power laws. M...

Inverse Compton Origin of the Hard X-ray and Soft Gamma-ray Emission from the Galactic Ridge

A recent re-determination of the non-thermal component of the hard X-ray to soft γ-ray emission from the Galactic ridge, using the SPI instrument on the INTErnational Gamma-Ray Astrophysics Laboratory (INTEGRAL) Observatory, is shown to be well reproduced as inverse-Compton emission from the interstellar medium. Both cosmic-ray primary electrons and secondary electrons and positrons contribute ...

Rayleigh Wave in an Initially Stressed Transversely Isotropic Dissipative Half-Space

The governing equations of a transversely isotropic dissipative medium are solved analytically to obtain the surface wave solutions. The appropriate solutions satisfy the required boundary conditions at the stress-free surface to obtain the frequency equation of Rayleigh wave. The numerical values of the non-dimensional speed of Rayleigh wave speed are computed for different values of frequency...

Cosmic Ray Production of Li by Structure Formation Shocks in the Early Milky Way: a Fossil Record of Dissipative Processes during Galaxy Formation

While the abundances of Be and B observed in metal-poor halo stars are well explained as arising from spallation of CNO-enriched cosmic rays (CRs) accelerated by supernova (SN) shocks, accounting for the observed Li in such stars with SN CRs is more problematic. Here we propose that gravitational shocks induced by infalling and merging sub-Galactic clumps during hierarchical structure formation...

Non-thermal processes in cosmological simulations

Non-thermal components are key ingredients for understanding clusters of galaxies. In the hierarchical model of structure formation, shocks and large-scale turbulence are unavoidable in the cluster formation processes. Understanding the amplification and evolution of the magnetic field in galaxy clusters is necessary for modelling both the heat transport and the dissipative processes in the hot...
